The walking tour starts with a visit to the cellars of the Palace that are still very well preserved. The cellars offer a good view at how the life in the Palace was organized. The Cathedral St. Duje is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Duje. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Duje.

Zadar city sightseeing tour with local guide
Although it’s the largest metropolis in northern Dalmatia, Zadar is perhaps not as well known as other Croatian cities. Despite this fact, Zadar offers a wealth of attractions, and it’s an exceptionally easy city to explore on foot, thanks in part to its many fine marble pedestrian- friendly streets. In addition to its historic old town center, Zadar boasts splendid medieval churches and Roman ruins, including the famous Church of St. Donat built on the site of the former ancient Roman forum. The Promenade, which runs down Obala Kralja Petra Kresimira IV, is also perfect for a gentle stroll as you soak up the surroundings, installed along Zadar’s seafront in 2005 and now one of Croatia’s most popular art installations, the fun Sea Organ is well worth a visit. In essence a giant musical instrument that’s played by the action of the waves.

The origins of Cavtat stretch right back to ancient Greek times before it came under Roman rule in 228 BC. The area was then destroyed in the 7th century AD when its inhabitants fled to a nearby island and eventually founded the city of Dubrovnik. By the 15th century, a new settlement began growing here, and today Cavtat is a small seaside town tucked on a peninsula between two bays, with lush vegetation and plenty sandy beaches at Zal, just east of the town.
